CD Project RED has three Cyberpunk 2077 projects in production including a multiplayer game

President and joint CEO of CD Projekt RED Adam Kiciński and CFO Piotr Nielubowicz may have said quite a few things they should have not to Polish business site and thanks to the wonders of Google Translate we can all understand what the loose lipped executive sad

They started by saying they were very happy with the pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077 and that there was a “big difference” between those for Cyberpunk and those of The Witcher 3. Pre-sales of the game via digital stores are “very strong” in the Chinese market, apparently.

Now on to the good stuff, but please remember this is via Google Translate so this may not be exactly what was said. “We’re working on three cyberpunk things – over the main game and over two more,” said Adam Kiciński, adding that there are three separate teams working on three Cyberpunk games.

He went on to explain that the CD Projekt RED development team based in Wrocław, which consists of about forty people, are working on the “multiplayer mode Cyberpunk 2077”. Piotr Nielubowicz then told that the next big CD Projekt game will also be set in the world of Cyberpunk.

“Our next big project will also be in the ‘cyberpunk’ universe, and we’re already working on it and treating it as a really big and innovative project for us,” said Nielubowicz.

This appears to indicate that we will be getting Cyberpunk 2077, then a hefty Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer game, possibly DLC for the main title but probably a stand alone title, and then a second large game set in the same universe, that could be the sequel.

It was also revealed that alongside the three teams working on Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED has another two teams and one of them is working on a “AAA role-playing game” that will be released sometime before the end of 2021. The smart money would be on The Witcher 4.

It was also revealed that the demo that will be shown at Gamescom will be the same as the one shown at E3, so don’t expect any new details then, but a new part of the game will be playable at Pax West in August, and then more details revealed at the start of next year.

  1. I think Geralt’s story has come to a satisfying conclusion, but maybe they’ll continue the franchise with a different main character? I’d love to revisit that world again, but we also can’t rule out that they might be working on a completely different fantasy rpg.
