New FromSoftware game Metal Wolf Chaos XD out next month

Devolver Digital has announced that its latest upcoming game, Metal Wolf Chaos XD, will launch on August 6th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Although we’ve known about the project for some time, the publisher was no doubt holding back on the big reveal just to coincide with Independence Day tomorrow.

What relevance does this have, you may be asking. Well, Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a bombastic, remorselessly over the top action game that stars you as the 47th president of the United States, doling out patriotic justice from the harness of his trusty mech. It’s also developed by Dark Souls creators, FromSoftware. Here’s the brief:

The country is in peril as President Michael Wilson defends the nation against a full-scale rebellion lead by Vice-President Richard Hawk and the mechanised legions he commands. As the 47th President of the United States, it is your sworn duty to take your country back by any means necessary and end this unjust coup d’état! Battle in your advanced mech – armed to the teeth – across iconic American landscapes including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Grand Canyon, and the front steps of the White House.

Metal Wolf Chaos originally launched in 2004 for the original Xbox, exclusively in Japan. Its bonkers premise earned it a cult following and with FromSoftware having grown in popularity over the years, fans have continually pined for an overseas launch.

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is a new re-release sporting enhanced 4K visuals, developer General Arcade having also tweaked FromSoftware’s original controls and gameplay for us modern day mech pilots. One touch fans of the game will love is the return of Metal Wolf’s original (and fairly awful) English dub.

The game is now available to pre-order for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC at a price of £19.99. Doing so will net you a platform exclusive mech skin.
