Supermassive Games’ Man of Medan is all about bringing the frights and experiencing a story that will rely on your choices as you venture through the horror before you. It’s a game where the characters’ reactions will matter a lot leading to different outcomes depending on how relationships have developed. Supermassive Games has already confirmed the Curator’s Cut pre-order bonus for Man of Medan but the latest trailer shows it in action, and just how much of an impact it could have on the flow of a story.
The trailer shows the same scene unfolding on a boat with the first take showing Conrad and Brad interacting when they first meet, with players taking on the role of Brad. This scene will be available to everyone who has the game. The scene then restarts but now puts you in the shoes of Alex, Brad’s brother and a whole new set of choices and dialogue appear that can affect the relationship with his girlfriend Alex. The trailer makes clear that this scene is only available in the Curator’s Cut of the game. The Curator’s Cut is billed as an alternative version with whole new scenes, secrets, information, and perspectives to play through.
From a personal perspective, it feels a bit disingenuous to have all this story content held back as a pre-order bonus. I don’t doubt these scenes will be available to get at a later date for those who don’t pre-order. I suppose business is business though.
In our preview Stefan wrote: “Though this was really a short, horror trope-filled demo, it’s just good to see Supermassive righting their ship after a tricky few years. This is a studio that can make great, immersive, scary games, and Man of Medan looks set to prove that all over again.”
