EA have confirmed that a new Need For Speed game would be released later this year but so far have not revealed any details about the game. Thanks to an Austrian retailer we may now know the name, which is Need For Speed Heat.
The game was listed briefly on the Gameware website along with some placeholder box art and a release date of this year. The franchise has it 25th birthday this year and we expect it to be revealed at Gamescom.
“We’ve got our eyes set firmly on the future,” posted Ben Walke from EA in a blog post. “But even while focusing on the future – especially this year – we’ve also thought a lot about what NFS means to you, and perhaps more importantly what we hope it will mean as we move forward.”
“Cars naturally top the list. You could say that the cars and customization of NFS are the beating heart of what we do. Without either of these, NFS fails to exist as we know it. These two elements play a pivotal role in the series and are two aspects that we consider to be foundational, meaning they aren’t going anywhere because NFS wouldn’t exist without them,” he continued.
“But NFS is also the culmination of many different aspects, and there’s a special essence that appears when all these aspects come together at a very high quality, an essence that helps create that unique NFS feeling,” added Ben. “You could say this essence is our DNA, and it’s exactly what we’re injecting straight into our next project.”
EA chief operating and financial officer Blake Jorgenson revealed the new game, along with a new Plants vs. Zombies title, during the EA earnings call last year.
The last game in the series was Need For Speed Payback which was rather average and only scored 6/10 in our review.

I live in Australia and I’ve never heard of gameware and the only gameware I could find is gameware.com which is an American site. Are you sure it was found from Australia…..
