Check out the first gameplay & story details of Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York

It feels like we’re swimming in Vampire: The Masquerade games at the moment, and today Draw Distance have revealed some of the details of what we can expect in their game.

No, it’s not that Vampire: The Masquerade gameor that one. No, this is Coteries of New York. The one from the studio formerly known as ifun4all? The “a bit like Telltale” one? Yeah, that one. We’ve got the skinny on the game’s story, some gameplay mechanics and some first screenshots to share after the announcement teaser trailer.

The game is heading to PC and Nintendo Switch in Q4 of this year.

Coteries of New York will cast you as a newly fledged vampire in New York, stepping into a conflict between the traditionalist Camarilla and independent Anarchs – this taking part in a licensed rendition of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition. You’re taken under the wing of an older, scheming vampire and have to learn the ways of the world as a nefarious plot gets underway around you.

Within that setting you meet other vampires, thin-bloods, ghouls, humans and more, with tasks that test your humanity while also trying to sate the blood lust of the Beast inside. Naturally, the choices you make will shape the storylines, and while you start as part of the Camarilla, could see you cross paths and learn from the Anarchs.

A few key mechanics were also described. Hunger indicates the constant need for blood and must be balanced, lest you succumb to the Beast in a terribly unsightly outburst. It contrasts with the Humanity level, a morality system that sees how far you stick to your character’s humanistic principles, and which could offer additional story choices or lock them away. Finally, the Masquerade rating indicates how well you blend in with mortal society, keeping yourself and the vampire community our of sight from the Second Inquisition.

Finally, Draw Distance have shared a handful of pre-alpha screenshots:

Draw Distance might have just revealed a fair amount about the game, but they’re still holding onto quite a few details about the game, including characters, Clans, Disciplines and the types of quests that you can take on.
