First it was Shang Tsung that was revealed to be part of Mortal Kombat 11’s Kombat Pack. He wouldn’t be the only character though as soon after Sindel, Nightwolf, and Spawn were announced as the next members of the Kombat pack. NetherRealm isn’t done with the new fighters though and the next two are some familiar faces.
The Joker and Arnie’s Terminator T-800 will both be available to purchase. The Joker isn’t a huge leap for NetherRealm as the studio is responsible for the Injustice games so has experience with the Clown Prince of Gotham, and it wouldn’t be too shocking if the moveset is largely the same though a bit updated for Mortal Kombat 11.
The Terminator is more of a surprise but with Terminator: Dark Fate coming soon there’s going to be a bit of push to get the character in the limelight so more. Of course, The Terminator is an iconic character of cinema and NetherRealm is no stranger to bringing film characters to its fighting franchises. Previous characters have included the likes of Freddie and Alien after all.
The Joker and Terminator round out the Kombat Pack roster, with the DLC also including gear and skins for these characters as well as 19 other skins for the rest of the Mortal Kombat 11 roster. If you haven’t played Mortal Kombat 11 yet you can get an idea of what we thought in the review.
This game is the pinnacle of Mortal Kombat action. Fights are fluid, weighty, and gorgeous to look at. Unfortunately, that tightly-designed gameplay is bogged down by a grindy system of loot and consumables that only serves to artificially extend your playtime in the most tedious ways imaginable. There is so much heart and care put into this game, from the combat to the gorgeous visuals and memorable story, but that effort feels nullified by the desperate attempt to twist an iconic video game franchise into just another endlessly online service game.
Shang Tsung and Night Wolf are available now. Terminator will be available on October 8th, Sindel November 24th, Joker January 28th, and Spawn March 13th.
