Can you release a game without a name? Apparently you can. House House have announced that their untitled goose game will be flapping, honking and harassing its way onto Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Game Store on 20th September.
The game was announced back in 2017, setting out its simple premise by saying quite simply “It’s a lovely weekday morning in the village and you are a horrible goose.” That’s remained the core of the game, with your naught goose’s shenanigans largely revolving around torturing the inhabitants of the quaint village, stealing their tools, honking loudly at them, and scaring them in numerous ways, while also trying to be stealthy for maximum surprise.
Already long in development, House House decided that they needed to delay the game in order to continue to refine and polish the game. Originally set for ‘early 2019’, they said in February that it would be delayed to ‘later in 2019’.
Of course, one thing they never quite figured out is what to call this game. Should it be a play on Metal Gear Solid? Perhaps ‘What’s Good for the Goose’ would have been a good name, or simply ‘Titled Goose Game’? I even saw someone suggest the slightly brilliant ‘Entitled Goose Game’.
Unfortunately, it might now simply be too late to give the game a name. Not only does everyone know it as ‘Untitled Goose Game’, but there’s literally just 20 days for them to file all the necessary bits of paperwork to give it a title.
I’m sure the goose doesn’t care.
