Can WWE 2K20 patch 1.02 fix the game? Let’s read the patch notes!

The launch of WWE 2K20 has been… less than ideal. After getting a ton of grief from players butting into the reams of bugs and glitches, 2K promised to investigate and update the game as soon as possible. Today they’ve pushed out update 1.02 across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, but does it go far enough?

2K outline the following areas that have been fixed or improved:

  • Gameplay and Controls
  • Graphics and Clipping
  • Hair Physics
  • Hit detection and aiming
  • Interactions with tables, ladders, steel steps, and other objects
  • Referee actions
  • Onscreen button prompts
  • Characters “warping” or moving unnaturally around the arena
  • Crashes and Freezing
  • Image downloads
  • Entrances and attires
  • Universe mode editing and saving
  • Custom and Created Superstars and creation modes
  • Commentary and sound effects
  • Online Stability, matchmaking, desyncs, and lag

However, they also note that they expect to roll out additional patches “in the near future” to address further concerns.

WWE 2K20 was announced in August of this year, with the game being put in the hands of NBA 2K series developer Visual Concepts. Previously the game’s development had been led by Japanese studio Yuke’s with Visual Concepts assisting, but Yuke’s have stepped away from the series. This effectively left Visual Concepts less than a year to redevelop the game, and it has told in the game’s end quality.

It’s built around the story of two wrestlers about to get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, looking back on their careers. During the campaign, which lasts around 20 hours, players will switch between the two and occasionally team up in Mixed Tag matches. There are over 100 matches for the pair to take part in, 34 career objectives to meet, and 18 chapters. There’s also a bit of weird moment in the story where the two will go through a portal and try to find the Undertaker who has disappeared.

Unfortunately, the quality simply hasn’t been there to back it up, with numerous users taking to social media to demonstrate egregious bugs and issues with the game. Here’s just a few examples.

It’s reported Sony is offering refunds for PS4 players due to the issues, though you should check the refund policy. It does state that refunds are given if the content is faulty, though it may not always go through.
