Modern Warfare Battle Pass explained, all 100 Tiers confirmed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is changing up how the power selling FPS franchise is dealing with DLC. Since 2007, Activision and its stable of CoD studios had been selling premium map packs but the landscape has changed somewhat in the realm of live service games.

Thanks to mega hits such as Fortnite and PUBG, the “Battle Pass” progression system is commonplace in most online games nowadays, replacing traditional DLC and even doing away with the more recent loot box trend.

If Modern Warfare is your first experience with a Battle Pass, you might be confused as to what it actually does and whether it’s worth investing time and money into.

In a nutshell, you should think of the Battle Pass as an additional XP gauge. It will rank up as your play online, with 100 Tiers to unlock – each tagged with a reward. These can range from emblems, and skins to weapons and even small bundles of premium currency.

20 of these Tiers are available to everyone who owns a copy of the game. However, if you want to redeem all 100 available rewards you’ll need to shell out 1,000 COD Points for the full Battle Pass (around $10/£10, based on previous Call of Duty games).

Battle Pass experience can be earned playing either multiplayer or Spec Ops. You’ll also be able to boost your progress by paying 150 COD Points per Tier.

There’s a slight time pressure here, however. Once Season One has wrapped, any Tiers you’ve failed to unlock will be lost and those rewards discarded (though likely to be available for purchase elsewhere).

Two rewards every Modern Warfare should be aiming for are the new guns – the the Ram-7 assault rifle and the Holger-26 rifle. Thankfully, neither require the full priced Battle Pass and can both be snapped up by hitting Tier 31.

It’s worth mentioning that there are enough COD Points up for grabs in Season One to purchase the next Battle Pass. As for new maps and modes, these will be made available for all players regardless of who owns a Battle Pass.
