The reformed Telltale Games have been tinkering with Batman: The Telltale Series which was originally created by the old version of Telltale Games, the one that went tits up. The game was unexpectedly revealed when a press release was posted by publishers Athlon Games but quickly removed, it appears someone pressed a button a little too early.
The new version of the game has had a graphical makeover and includes a “Shadows Mode” that seems to make the game atmospherically black and white. The full game will be available for $29.99, current owners can upgrade for $4.99. The press release does say the pack includes “new DLC” but is unclear if this is just the game mode or if new scenes or story have been added.
“We’re excited to be able to build and continue the legacy of an iconic Telltale Games franchise by launching The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition today,” said Telltale Games CEO Jamie Ottilie in the deleted press release. “This is just the beginning in a much more expansive plan to build on our catalog of Telltale Games titles, which we hope to discuss in further detail in the coming months.”
Many PlayStation owners will have the game as was part of PlayStation Plus, I got round to playing it a few weeks ago and it’s rather good with some nice twists on the Batman mythology but there were some serious graphical issues, let’s hope they have been fixed in this re-release.
“Batman: The Telltale Series starts strongly, recreating and altering the Batman mythos in new and inventive ways, but can’t keep it up and fades towards the end of its run,” we said in our 7/10 review. “It perhaps isn’t Telltale at their best, but still a series worth checking out for fans of their work and of Batman.”
There was a second series of Batman from Telltale but everyone seems to have forgotten about that one.
The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
