CD Projekt RED has confirmed exactly when Android users will be able to play Gwent: The Witcher Card Game on their devices. The game will be available from March 24th and Android users can pre-register now to be notified of when Gwent is available to download. Those who pre-register will be gifted with an exclusive avatar to use in the game.
Gwent has been designed to not require money to be put in to make progress. Victories will earn players new cards for their decks. The permissions that the Gwent app will require on Android devices are as follows:
- view Wi-Fi connections
- read the contents of your USB storage
- modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
- read the contents of your USB storage
- modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
- view network connections
- control vibration
- full network access
- prevent device from sleeping
- Google Play license check
What has not yet been confirmed is the Android version required to run Gwent or which devices it will be compatible with. The size of the game download is also unknown on Android, though on iOS the file size is 2.7GB. It was just a couple of months ago that CD Projekt RED withdrew support for the console version of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game due to those platforms not being as popular as PC and, at the time, iOS. CD Projekt RED stated it would not be able to support the game across all of these platforms due to a lack of resources so had to make the choice on where to focus, and the ones with the higher player count obviously took priority.
