Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron is an Ork aerial combat game

The latest game set in the sci-fi Games Workshop universe, Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron is a little bit different. An Ork aerial combat game, it will be coming to unspecified consoles and PCs in Q4 of this year.

Most Warhammer 40,000 games put you in the heavily armoured boots of the super boring, super plain Space Marines, but that’s not the case for the newly announced Warhammer 40,000 Dakka Squadron. No, this is apparently “The first video game built from the ground up by Orks for Orks.”

You’ll start off the game as a mere Flyboy, but take to the skies and battle rival clans and you’ll rank up and gain more advanced kit. You’ll fly Dakkajets, Burna-Bommas, Blitza-Bommas and equip them with all manner of ridiculous Ork guns, bombs and missiles. You’ll work your way up through the ranks of the game’s five clans, until you become a Warboss – Blood Axes, Goffs, Bad Moons, Death Skullz and Evil Sunz each have different perks and abilities to take advantage of.

It’s a barmy idea, but it might just work. The Orks are easily the most fun and silly race in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Their lore is just nonsense, for one thing, as a race that’s interconnected with the psyker abilities and the void of space, but without the kind of undrestanding of it that the Eldar have, for example. So instead they basically just believe stuff’s going to work and it magically does. Their vehicles all go faster when they have red stripes on them, because they believe they will, they hop a ride on space hulks and just cruise through space to where they want, not because they engineer powerful engines and carefully navigate, but because they just know that it’s going to work.

Orks are so stupid, but they’re also brilliant.

Anyway, Dakka Squadron sounds like it could be a bit of fun, right?
