Ghost of Tsushima release date confirmed for June, new trailer here

Sony has confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch will be released on June 26th. The date comes from a new story trailer that has been put up which shows the main character Jin Sakai face off against the Mongol invasion of Japan, and deal with the occupation of Tsushima following a battle which sees the Japanese forces routed. The trailer shows both scenes from the story as Jin’s legend as the Ghost grows among the Mongols and islanders, as well as gameplay including horseback riding and the strategic combat.

It was back in December when we last heard anything of note about Ghost of Tsushima when a trailer was dropped during Sony’s State of Play, though it was no more than a teaser to confirm the game was still coming, and not much more. Today’s announcement is much more substantial and it seems Ghost of Tsushima could be one of the last big exclusives for the PS4 before we see the launch of the PS5 later this year. Who knows? Maybe the game will appear on the next generation too, though it will be playable through backwards compatibility on the PS5.

Here’s the official synopsis of Ghost of Tsushima:

Steel and swordsmanship – you must master both to survive in this colossal quest across 1274 Japan, where the Mongol army has taken over Tsushima Island.
Don your armour, sharpen your katana and strap on your longbow as you assume the role of Jin, a battered samurai who remains the island’s only hope against the ruthless Khan and his vicious empire.

A free dynamic Ghost of Tsushima theme was released on Christmas Eve but the codes have since expired, with those only being redeemable until the end of January, so if you missed out then you won’t be able to get the theme now. Unless Sony decides to do another free theme giveaway.
