New Witcher game will enter development after Cyberpunk 2077 release

CD Projekt RED president Adam Kiciński has been speaking again and this time has revealed that there is going to be another Witcher game, and that it will enter development once Cyberpunk 2077 has been released. What has been stated is that this new game will not be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but will part of the universe. This may mean that Geralt will not be the main character. That could instead fall to Ciri or there may be a different character that CD Projekt RED has in mind to lead the next game. Some concepts have already been thought of though they have not been made public.

Adam also spoke about the future of CD Projekt RED and stated that the current games that are in the planning phase will either belong in The Witcher’s universe or within the Cyberpunk universe. That essentially confirms that Cyberpunk 2077 will not be a one off title and we can expect sequels and spin offs within that series for a good few years. Recently, Cyberpunk 2077 was confirmed for Xbox Series X, with those purchasing the Xbox One version getting a free upgrade to the next gen version. While a PS5 version will also happen it is unclear if Sony will allow for free cross-generational upgrades.

The Witcher has seen a spike in popularity following the release of the Netflix The Witcher series which saw The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt climb up charts and hit player counts that were not seen since the game’s original release in 2015. Season two of the show was confirmed while season one was yet to be released. A week and a half ago Netflix announced that it had found the actor who would play Vesemir, Geralt’s father like figurem and that actor is  Kim Bodnia. He most recently starred in the hit show Killing Eve.
