Final Fantasy VII Remake physical copies already in the hands of some players

It appears that a few people have already got their physical copy of Final Fantasy VII Remake even though the game does not officially launch until April 10th. A now deleted post on Reddit showed a copy of the collectors edition of the game including some items that were meant to be secret.

Copies of the game are showing up on eBay at a vastly inflated price and some are suggesting this is not just an unfortunate error but rather the work of a criminal gang who have links to the manufacturing process.

Spoilers for the game might start appearing on YouTube so be wary, although this is a remake of a 23 year old game so story spoilers for Final Fantasy VII are akin to revealing Darth Vader is Luke’s dad.

Square Enix has given a new update regarding the release date of Final Fantasy VII Remake as the coronavirus has shut down most shops. It was just over a week ago the company gave its first update and warned that some players may not get Final Fantasy VII Remake physical copies on April 10th, the game’s release date. The company reiterated that message as various retailers react differently to lockdown measures in their countries. However, Square Enix has announced it is aiming to get all pre-orders made on its store out to customers by April 10th.

The full statement is below:

As we prepare for the release of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE on April 10, we wanted to keep you updated on how the proactive measures being taken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus are likely to affect the distribution and retail landscape in western regions at launch.

As you will be aware, many countries are limiting entry or closing their national and state borders and restricting the distribution and delivery of non-essential items. Understandably these restrictions are being implemented so that essential items can reach their destination as fast as possible.

This does not mean that box copies of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will not be dispatched, it just means that we cannot control the date the game may arrive.

In many countries and states, retail stores are closing to help with social distancing measures. If you placed a pre-order with one of these retailers, we advise you to check their websites for the latest information about the status of pre-orders, as well as pick-up and/or delivery information. Please ensure your mailing address and contact details are up to date, as some retailers have begun contacting customers with delivery updates.

Finally, we are currently making arrangements to ensure that pre-orders from the SQUARE ENIX STORE reach you by April 10.

We are working hard to ensure as many of you as possible can play the game on April 10 and will update further when we have more information.

Thank you for your continued support and most importantly, stay safe.

So, Final Fantasy VII Remake’s release date remains April 10th but even if you have pre-ordered you may not get it on that date. Unless you go digital that is – or know a criminal.
