Predator: Hunting Grounds – how to enable/disable crossplay

What was once a rare albeit highly sought after feature, cross platform play is now fairly commonplace in most online games launching in 2020.

Sony and Illfonic’s Predator: Hunting Grounds is no exception. Since its announcement the unique asymmetrical shooter has been heavily marketed as a PlayStation console exclusive with Sony Interactive Entertainment being the game’s publisher.

However, it’s also available to purchase on PC via the Epic Games Store. With both versions having launched side by side, it should come as no surprise to learn that Predator: Hunting Grounds allows the option for cross play.

This brief guide touches on how to enable or disable this feature and whether you should.

How to disable crossplay

By default, Predator has PC/PS4 crossplay already switched on. In a nutshell, what this means is that players who purchased the game either on PlayStation 4 or PC will be dropped into the same matchmaking hopper.

If, for some reason, you decide you want to stick with your system’s own online player base there’s an easy way to disable crossplay. Simply head into the general options where you will find the following screen.

Should I disable crossplay?

Crossplay can come with its own pros and cons though generally, if you’re just looking to have some fun playing Predator: Hunting Grounds, you should just leave it on. Chances are there will be plenty who don’t even realise they’re dropping into a match with others running the game on a different system.

The big upside to enabling crossplay is fairly obvious. The larger the number of players queuing for a match, the less time this process will take. If all you care about is getting into games fast then this should theoretically cut down on the time spent idly ogling menus during the matchmaking phase.

The downside is that there will always be an uneven playing field where PC and PS4 players are being thrown into the same arena. There’s a speed and precision that comes from using a mouse that will always make it slightly superior to even a pimped out “pro” controller.

As such, by enabling crossplay on PS4 and donning the Predator mantle, you’ll come up against PC Fireteam soldiers potentially more formidable than their console counterparts.
