The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima – New release dates announced!

The PlayStation Blog has announced the new release dates for The Last of Us Part II, which was delayed indefinitely earlier this year, and Ghost of Tsushima. The Last of Us Part II will arrive on will now arrive on 19th June, Ghost of Tsushima will follow a month after on July 17th.

Here is the statement from the blog.

As our teams at Sony Interactive Entertainment and Worldwide Studios approach development milestones and confront a world changed by COVID-19, we find ourselves having to adapt to today’s ever-changing environment. Amidst some disruptions to our working styles, we wanted to provide an update to PlayStation gamers who are eager to learn when our next exclusive titles will arrive to PlayStation 4.

As we begin to see an ease in the global distribution environment, I am pleased to confirm that The Last of Us Part II will arrive on 19th June. And Ghost of Tsushima will follow on 17th July.

I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances. Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.

And finally, I want to thank the PlayStation Community for their continuous support and patience.

Funnily enough, the release date for The Last of Us on PlayStation 3 was June 14th 2013, so the sequel’s ended up with a release date that’s almost exactly 7 years later.

Earlier today we revealed that videos are from a development build of The Last of Us Part II including “a lot”, if not all of the cut scenes, menus showing the chapter selections, unfinished multiplayer code, and the entire ending had leaked online. Some game sites have also posted summaries of the plot so be very careful where you click for the next few days.

  1. “he original release date for The Last of Us Part II was June 13th so it’s not changed much.”

Eh? Pretty sure 29 May was the original release date (bar the original-original 21 February).

    • Tuffcub completely misunderstood the tidbit that I fed to him (so I’ve now fixed it). The first game was released in June 2013. This is now almost exactly 7 years later.
