The Rust May update brings electric heaters, water pumps, and night vision goggles

Facepunch Studios has confirmed the items that are coming to Rust as part of the game’s May update. There are three very practical items and those are water pumps, electric heaters, and night vision goggles. The electric heaters will help prevent your character dying indoors due to severe cold, and to run one will cost 3 power. The electric heaters will also have a heat range of 10 metres which should provide ample protection. Warming up may make you thirsty though and now it will be a bit easier to get purified water. In the update, a new water pump can be constructed and it will collect 150ml of water per minute from a water source. To run it will cost 5 power. The water may not be healthy to drink though which is why the powered water purifier is  also being added. The purifier will be able to convert salt water into fresh water faster than a campfire can. A fluid combiner rounds off the set so you can combine different liquids.

The world of Rust can be dangerous, especially at night, which is why night vision googles are being added as well. While they are a powerful tool there is a lot of limitation built in. You will not be able to wear a helmet, other players can see them, they are rendered useless if someone flashes a light at them, and the battery only lasts a total of 15 minutes. Those will then need to be changed at a tier 2 workbench. Maybe use them sparingly in any night time adventures.

There are changes and fixes coming to Rust as well. One of those is removing the ability to skip monument puzzles by flying straight to the monument using helicopters. Most monuments have been sealed off to stop this exploit but in areas that cannot be done a number of SAM units have been deployed to destroy anyone who tries to fly in. Farming should be much more productive thanks to the new items, planter box optimal water saturation levels have been lowered while the minimum temperature has been increased, and plant hardiness genes have a positive impact on plant happiness and yields.

The May update will go live Thursday 7th May at 7pm BST.
