Bloober Team, the developer behind Layers of Fear, Observer and Blair Witch, have revealed their next game The Medium as an Xbox Series X and PC exclusive coming out this year. It will be part of Xbox Game Pass.
The game will follow the character of Marianne, a medium who’s haunted by visions forced to live between both the real and spirit worlds.
Piotr Babieno, CEO at Bloober Team, said “Every one of our games has a central theme that drives its creative and technological design. In The Medium, we focus on perspective and perception. When you change your point of view, you discover that things are more complicated and nuanced than you initially thought” – said Piotr Babieno, CEO at Bloober Team. “The Medium is our most ambitious game ever and we can’t wait to show you how we’re translating this vision into a psychological horror.”
To go alongside the next-gen visuals in the game, will be the sounds of Akira Yamaoka, the renowned composer from the Silent Hill series who’s working alongside Bloober Team’s Arkadiusz Reikowski to create a ‘dual’ score that embodies both worlds.
Piotr continued, “The inclusion of the legendary Akira Yamaoka – best known for his work on the Silent Hill franchise – is a dream come true. We’ve been inspired by many of the previous games he has worked on and are thrilled to bring a new one to life with The Medium.”
The game will be out this at the end of this year, within the launch window of the Xbox Series X, and will be available via Xbox Game Pass, just as Bloober Team’s Blair Witch was on its launch.
There is the question over whether this is a full exclusive game or a timed exclusive as Blair Witch was, but either way, Xbox gamers will be getting first dibs on the game. It will also be very interesting to see how scalable the game is on PC.
Either way, we look forward to seeing more of it in the coming months.
