Fallout 76 free to play weekend begins today allowing you to try out the recent Wastelanders update

Bethesda’s Fallout 76 has not been as well received as the studio would have liked. Even before launch there were issues with the beta featuring a game deleting bug, lots of issues in the game at launch, and claims of fraud when the studio did not send out the correct bag for special edition owners of Fallout 76. However, since that rather torrid time Bethesda has been attempting to make things better for Fallout 76 and its player base. I guess Bethesda feels more people should be playing the game and as a result has launched a free play weekend, which has started today and will run until May 18th. The free play event will give access to game’s content including the recent Wastelanders update.

Jason went back to try out Fallout 76: Wastelanders after being less than impressed with Fallout 76. In his review of Wastelanders Jason wrote:

My original review of Fallout 76 talked a lot about the flaws found in the world and the gameplay, but a lot of my issues with the game came from the incredible amount of bugs and how poorly it ran. It’s been a year and a half since that fateful article, and while some things have changed for the better, the game is still dragging the weight of its problems behind it.

Despite the addition of NPCs and a load of new content, Fallout 76: Wastelanders is still just a painfully average Fallout game. That’s not to say that things aren’t better for the update, because the game at least feels like it’s moving in the right direction, but it’s building on top of the still rickety foundations of the original release. Ironically, things might be simpler if they simply nuked the game and started again, but you’ve got to respect the hustle.
