Gamescom’s Opening Night Live will take place on August 27th

Last month, the gamescom conference was changed to a digital event due to Germany extending its ban on mass gatherings through to the end of August. At the time, there was not much information but now Koelnmesse, the event organisers, have confirmed that gamescom digital will take place on the weekend of August 27th to August 30th. On August 27th, the Opening Night Live conference will take place and will be hosted by Geoff Keighley. During this event there will no doubt be major announcements and new game reveals, with a likely focus on the next generation of consoles as they will not be far from release at that point.

Over the weekend, there will be Daily Shows that will feature games, while the gamescom studio segments will have talks from game developers about their games. There is also the addition of the Awesome Indies show which will be a conference focusing on indie titles. That will be taking place on August 29th. There will also be features from various industry partners to watch throughout the weekend.

Felix Falk, the managing director of game – the association of the German games industry, and sponsor of gamescom said:

“This year, all our energies for gamescom 2020 is going into digital. In a short amount of time and working in close tandem with some of the world’s most important gaming companies on the gamescom advisory board, we have been able to develop a powerful and focused concept for gamescom 2020. We are anticipating surprising shows, numerous world premieres, announcements and special promotions that will set the entire games world all abuzz about gamescom at the end of August.”

This digital conference is just one of a few taking place over the summer due to the cancellation of E3. On June 6th we will see Guerrilla Collective begin the conference season. The on June 11th EA will step up with EA Play Live. On July 12th, Ubisoft will be hosting its Ubisoft Forward conference. We are also expecting some kind of PS5 showcase from Sony, and Microsoft has confirmed it will be holding an event in July too.
