NetherRealm Studios have released a new gameplay trailer for Mortal Komabt 11: Aftermath, introducing Fujin as a playable character.
While this isn’t a very in depth look at the returning MK fighter we get to see him momentarily in action, making his first proper appearance since 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Fujin originally appeared in 2D platformer spin-off, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, before being rolled into the MK4 roster.
Fujin is one of three new characters being added to Mortal Kombat 11 with the launch of its surprise expansion. The God of Wind will be accompanied by fan favourite Sheeva with Robocop being the franchise’s latest crossover guest.
Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will pick up directly after the events of the main game, continuing the saga with a new cinematic chapter. It’s an unprecedented move for the Mortal Kombat series though one that makes sense given the popularity of its story modes.
That said, some are questioning the value of this new DLC. Aftermath has been priced at £34.99 for launch with the only other addition being three skin packs which will be rolled out after its release next week on May 26th.
In our Mortal Kombat 11 review from last year, Miguel awarded the fighting sequel a 7/10, highlighting frustrations with consumables and how the game was monetised at launch:
This game is the pinnacle of Mortal Kombat action. Fights are fluid, weighty, and gorgeous to look at. Unfortunately, that tightly-designed gameplay is bogged down by a grindy system of loot and consumables that only serves to artificially extend your playtime in the most tedious ways imaginable. There is so much heart and care put into this game, from the combat to the gorgeous visuals and memorable story, but that effort feels nullified by the desperate attempt to twist an iconic video game franchise into just another endlessly online service game.
Despite pleas from fans, one character who won’t be making an appearance in Mortal Komat 11: Aftermath is Mileena.
