Original story below:
EA are not having a good time trying to keep the lid on Star Wars: Squadrons, or as it was previously known Star Wars: Project Maverick. The latest leak comes from Microsoft who splashed the game all over the front of Xbox.com with a pre-order link.
Venturebeat have been speaking to mysterious ‘sources’ and had this to report.
According to sources familiar with the game’s production, Star Wars: Squadrons is an aerial/space combat game about piloting ships in head-to-head battles. It features a single-player campaign, but the main focus for Squadrons is on the multiplayer. The idea is to get players fighting against each other in team battles featuring iconic Star Wars vessels.
Earlier this year PlayStation were on the naughty step when an image for the game was placed on the PSN and scraped off. The image showed a Star Destroyer and a couple of X-Wings which means the game is set at least sometime during or after the the original trilogy of movies
The game was scheduled to revealed on June 2nd but I expect EA decided to cancel the event, as many other did, while protests were occurring around the world.
After two delay the eagerly awaited Star War Battlefront II: Battle on Scarif update went live an April 20th, the final update to the game which leaves EA without an ongoing Star Wars game.
EA have stated that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had sold “beyond our projections for the quarter,” and was now on track to shift 10 million copies by the end of March 2020 so there is a financial reason why DLC may be in the works.
We speculated what EA might do with with Star Wars license just a few weeks ago. EA have promised new games in the Dragon Age, Battlefield, and Star Wars franchises by the end of 2022 but were not expecting this one so early.
