Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II has smashed records on it’s first week of releasing becoming Sony’s fastest selling PlayStation 4 game ever, but only just. It beat another Naughty Dog title, Uncharted 4, by just 1%, but thrashed sales of the original The Last of Us by 76%.
It’s also claimed the biggest launch of a boxed game this year beating previous holder Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As you might expect no one wanted to go head to head with Joel and Ellie so there were no other new releases this week but Nintendo’s Ring Fit Adventure is still selling well and holding in second place with sales up 31% on last week.

Critics have praised the game with many giving it a top score, including us. “The Last of Us Part II is a remorseless epic delivering in its masterful storytelling, nail-biting gameplay and unrivalled production values,” we said in our 10/10 review. “Naughty Dog have truly surpassed themselves yet again, crafting a heartfelt sequel that will leave you gasping as they continue to raise the bar for the video game industry. It’s yet another must-buy for PlayStation 4 owners, supercharging Sony’s unstoppable stable of exclusives.”
However, some people are very upset about the story told in the game and despite the game having a Metacritic Critic rating on 95 it has a Metacritic User Score of 3.7 thanks to 43033 ‘generally unfavorable reviews.’
Obviously I can’t explain any further without spoilers but suffice to say the story contains a number of shocks that have made people think they know better than Naughty Dog, which is clearly ridiculous.
Also TLOU2 is fab. So shush.
