Far Cry 6 confirmed, will star Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito [Updated]

Update: Following the below leak Ubisoft have confirmed Esposito’s involvement in the next Far Cry game with a smokey teaser trailer leading toward a full reveal at Ubisoft Forward on Sunday 12th July.

Apparently he’s quite disappointed in the leak…

Ubisoft have their E3 replacement event lined up for this Sunday July 12th, and there were whispers that a new Far Cry game would be revealed. The Japanese PlayStation Store has now listed the game rather earlier than Ubisoft expected, although the listing has now been removed.

Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito will be playing a dictator named Anton Castillo, ruling over a fictional country Yara which consists of beaches, cities and jungles and seems to be partially based on Cuba. Castillo is “intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means with this son, Diego, following in hos bloody footsteps.” Presumably that’s Diego in the picture above.

You will be playing as Dani Rojas, a local who has become a guerrilla fighter in attempt to “liberate his nation”. The listing also stated “Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground”.

It sounds a bit Just-Cause-y to me, at least in terms of setting and plot.

The game will be released on PS4 and PS5 will come with a free next-gen upgrade so if you buy the PlayStation 4 version you will get the PS5 version for free. We expect Xbox owners to get the same deal. The game is set to be released on February 21, 2021.  Pre-orders will get you a “state of the art Discos Locos weapon and a skin for Chorizo”. We’re not sure what Chorizo is, could be a dog, could be a horse, might be a Jeep.

The leak confirms a previous leak that suggested we would get a new Far Cry game before March 2021.

Far Cry 3 spin off, Blood Dragon, is to be re-imagined as a young adult series on Netflix. Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe will be the start of the Ubisoft animated multiverse that wall also include a new animation based on Watch Dogs

  1. Chorizo clearly has to be a dog. A sausage dog. The most terrifying of the dogs. Apart from dogs with bees in their mouth and when they bark they shoot bees at you. And pretty much any sort of dog, except possibly a poodle.

  2. Found Far Cry 5 pretty boring. The story/setting was quite good, but having played all the previous Far Cry games, I’d just had enough by 5. Same thing happened with Assassin’s Creed. Was a big fan, but about 6 hours into Odyssey, I just completely lost interest.
