Midnight has struck, and it’s time for us in the UK to wave 2020 off into the sunset, burning like a Viking funeral pyre made out of tyres and rubbish.
What a load of awfulness that was, eh? I’m glad it’s all completely over and we can put it behind us…
Wait… what do you mean it’s not over?!
Look, let’s not beat around the bush here. 2020 was truly crap, and it looks like the first half of 2021 might actually manage to be even more crap. On the plus side, there’s now a handful of vaccines for the blight that is Covid-19, there’s a more reasonable head of state moving into the White House in the US, and the egotistical charlatans in charge over here have decided at the last moment to avoid the absolute worst Brexit imaginable. It’s still going to be a trying year, a time that we’ll have to persevere through, and that we’ll likely want to forget as much as we have 2020, but we can hope that what we see is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Through all the adversity, 2020 was actually a pretty great one for video games and for TheSixthAxis. With the anticipation building up to the new console launches, and with the escapism that gaming has provided through the year, we’ve seen record numbers of people visiting our humble website. For 2021, we obviously hope to continue with all of that, especially as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S really start to get into the swing of things. It’s looking like it’ll be an incredible year for video games once more – just see our Most Wanted feature – and we cannot wait to check them out.
But for now, let’s just bid good bloody riddance to the awfulness that was 2020, and keep our fingers crossed that the seeds of hope that have been sown in the last few months can sprout and flourish.
From all of us at TheSixthAxis, I want to wish you a Happy New Year!
