Rockfish Games have announced that space looter shooter Everspace 2 will be coming to Steam Early Access and GOG Games in Development programs on 18th January. This will eventually be followed in the first half of 2022 by a full release for PC, Mac and Linux.
The early access version will feature the first 12 hours of the story campaign as well as a clutch of side missions, all set within the first two star systems of the full game. Rockfish say that there will be at least 25 hours of gameplay through this, and players will be able to sample a bunch of gameplay mechanics from the off, including “space combat, exploration, mining, puzzle solving, traveling, trading, itemization, crafting, ship customization, player and companion perks as well as five different player ship subclasses.” Those ships are the Interceptor, Sentinel, Striker, Gunship, and Scout.
Hardcore space sim fans will be glad to hear that it will also have fully configurable HOTAS support, with presets for a bunch of Logitech and Thrustmaster sticks.
Through 2021, Rockfish will be releasing updates on a quarterly basis, with plans for four to six more star systems and an undetermined number of additional ships.
While the early access release will be cheaper than the full final release, it will still set you back €37.99 / $39.99 / £31.99. If that’s a bit steep and you simply want to get a feel for if the game is for you, there’s still the initial prototype version of the game available via Steam as a free demo.
That prototype was followed by a closed beta test, which Miguel was able to sample last year. In our Everspace 2 preview, he said:
“There have been a few other impressive arcade space-shooters in the last few years, but nothing has felt like it has quite the same scale as Everspace 2. The world is massive, the activities are varied, and the customization is staggering. For a game heading into Early Access in just a few months, it already feels full to the gills with addictive content. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what else gets added to the game as it hits Early Access in 2021.”
He won’t have to wait much longer!
