Sony’s new San Diego studio is working on an “AAA Action/Adventure”, possibly Uncharted

A LinkedIn profile on a Sony employee has leaked that Sony’s long rumoured new San Diego Studio are working on something a little different. Michael Mumbauer, the former Studio Head and Senior Director of Sony’s Visual Arts team, has joined the team and has posted this on his LinkedIn.

His latest achievement is having built a brand new, all-star, AAA Action/Adventure development team for Playstation. Based in San Diego and utilizing proprietary engine technology, this team was assembled to expand upon existing franchises and craft all new stories for the next generation of gamers.

That could be mean anything but IGN have spotted a little tease. LinkedIn profiles allow you feature YouTube videos, the section is curated by the owner of the LinekdIn page and amongst the various tech talks and keynotes that Michael himself posted is a YouTube video claiming that Sony San Diego are making Uncharted 5. It’s completely at odds to all the other videos posted, so is it a tease by Michael, or has he posted because it’s way off of the mark?

Just for clarity, this is not Sony San Diego, the existing studio that handles the MLB The Show franchise, it’s a new team allegedly made of ex Naughty Doggers and Rockstars.

If it is a new Uncharted it probably won’t be following Nathan Drake, his story is done.. or is it? We have the Uncharted movie coming out at the end of the year, a smaller Uncharted game in the vein of The Lost Legacy featuring Tom Holland as the young Nathan Drake seems obvious. If it’s not Uncharted then we can probably rule out a new Killzone or Resistance Fall Of Man title as they are not action adventures. There again they might be mixing things up,  how about a WipeOut adventure game?
