Dying Light 2 will launch in 2021, new gameplay shown

It’s been a while since we last checked in with Dying Light 2. With growing concerns surrounding the game’s troubled development, Polish studio Techland released a short video to address their fans, assuring them that Dying Light 2 is shaping up nicely.

The video opens with Dying Light 2 devs reading out the deranged ravings of snivelling “fans” demanding that the game should be released immediately. Probably the same entitled gamers who screamed at CD Projekt Red to launch Cyberpunk 2077 only to issue death threats when the game launched with a raft of issues.

Techland confirmed that Dying Light 2 will launch in 2021 and said they’d be ready to talk about their hotly anticipated sequel “very, very soon”. To cap off the weird developer update, we were treated to some new gameplay footage.

The brief glimpse of Dying Light 2 gameplay shows off more of the sequel’s parkour and melee combat against enemy faction grunts. Of course, this wouldn’t be Dying Light 2 without the infected, this mini preview teasing a new breed with arm-protrusions sprouting from their back. This is followed by the simple messages “stay tuned” and “2021”.

Announced during E3 2018 (which honestly seems like a lifetime ago) Dying Light 2 was originally slated for release in early 2020 before Techland announced it would be delayed in order to give the team more time to spruce up their zombie-infested sandbox sequel.

Right now we don’t have a confirmed release window though we’re likely to get a launch date in the near future, Techland no doubt planning previews and a big media blowout.

Despite being one of the most exciting upcoming video game releases, Dying Light 2 has been mired in controversy. Delays of big AAA games usually come tagged with stories of stifled development, those surrounding Techland citing key staff departures, allegations of hostile working conditions, and the exit of Chris Avellone following sexual abuse allegations in 2020.
