While you might still be searching for a PS5 or Xbox Series X, along comes Evercade with a new console announcement, though this is a new machine with a controller firmly held in the past. The Evercade VS is a all-new home console that builds on the Evercade handheld’s infrastructure, working with all of the currently available carts. The best part? It has an RRP of £89.99/$99.99, making it a perfect way to enjoy a host of classic games at an affordable price.
The compact home console includes two USB controllers in the box, with four controller sockets down the front for multiplayer shenanigans. In an unusual, but welcome, move, you’ve got two cartridge slots, giving players access to up to 40 games at a time depending on the carts you choose.

The Evercade VS builds out from its handheld forebear, which is already a brilliant retro console. You can actually plug the evercade into your TV as well, though the Evercade VS gives you access to multiplayer and a 1080p image – those 8-bit blocks will have never been sharper!
We awarded the Evercade Premium Pack a fantastic 8/10 in our recent review. I summed things up by saying “This is the kind of retro console that almost insists you build a complete collection of cartridges, begging you to experience the games that built an industry. The Evercade is a retro-gaming fan’s dream, and at £80 the Premium Pack is ridiculously good value.”
One of the best things about Evercade is the collectible nature of the cartridges, which collect together some of the most iconic video games of all time, from Pacman and Missile Command through to Earthworm Jim. There’s a steady flow of new titles appearing too, with upcoming releases including Worms and the incredible Cannon Fodder.
The Evercade VS is due for release in November 2021, just in time for Christmas, with pre-orders for the new console opening on May 28th.
