Greedfall PS5 update won’t work with free PlayStation Plus version

If you recently redeemed Greedfall as part of January 2021’s free PlayStation Plus lineup, we have some bad news for you. This PS4 version of the action RPG is not legible for a free PS5 upgrade, the game’s developer has confirmed.

Responding to a member of the PlayStation community on Twitter, Greedfall’s official account states that the PS+ version of the game cannot be upgraded for free. However, those playing Greedfall on Xbox Series consoles can get the Gold Edition upgrade if they’re playing on Game Pass.

The next-gen update adds 4K UHD resolution, enhanced performance, and faster loading times. Those picking up Greedfall: Gold Edition will also bag the The de Vespe Conspiracy DLC expansion.

In order get the free PS5 upgrade, you will need to have purchased the original version of Greedfall on PS4 (either on disc or digitally). If you’re desperate to try RPG on Sony’s new console, new copies of the PS4 version can be purchased for around £15 that can then be upgraded.

Every PS4 to PS5 upgrade – the full list

We gave the original version of the game 7/10 in our review. “Greedfall has an ambitious story, but it’s not backed up by the clearly repeated environments, simple combat and dull abilities that take ages to unlock,” said Gareth. “However, seasoned RPG players might well be able able to look past those flaws in favour of the interesting, well written stories about political manoeuvres and oppression that make up the bulk of the quests in this pretty dark, deep world.”

The next game from Greedfall’s developer

Spiders, the developer of Greedfall, has not rested on its laurels. In July, the company revealed  for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. In Steelrising, you play as Aegis, the robotic bodyguard of Queen Marie-Antoinette, ordered to find your creator and put and end to the tyranny of King Louis XVI and the robot army he is using to crack down on the French Revolution.

The Paris depicted in the game includes many monuments and famous locations, including those that no longer exist, including the Grand Chatelet and the Tour du Temple. Aegis has weapons built into her body, with items found while exploring letting you make her more powerful, more durable, or more mobile. There’s seven families of weapons, which could be built into her arms, alchemical rifles for long range, or more powerful and forceful options as well.

A release date for Steelrising is yet to be confirmed.

  1. It looks like they were desperate to not give the upgrade to PS+ owners. The version they gave us on PS+ has been removed from the store and replaced by a new version that includes PS4 and PS5 versions. (The old version is still available on PS Now as well)

If you own that old version from PS+, you also can’t buy the Gold Edition that includes the DLC as well as both the PS4 and PS5 versions. But you can buy the new Standard Edition and the DLC separately. Which, unsurprisingly, costs more than the bundle you can’t buy.
