Arcadegeddon enters PS5 early access from the developers of Predator: Hunting Grounds

Illfonic has announce Arcadegeddon, an arcade-inspired cooperative multiplayer shooter that is now available in Early Access on PlayStation 5 and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Arcadegeddon is a change of pace for the studio behind asymmetrical multiplayer games Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th: The Game, instead embracing vibrant colours in a 90s punk rock aesthetic, as well as a greater focus on cooperative play for up to 4 players.

The game drops you into a local arcade that is on the brink of going out of being consumed by a mega corp, quite literally. Fun Fun Co. hacks games and injects them with a virus that you and your friends need to battle in order to save the last hometown arcade.

You’ll be battling through different biomes on missions, hopping into mini-games, searching for hidden chests and fighting all manner of enemies and bosses. There are nine different gangs in the arcade that you can take challenges from to unlock Surge Gauntlet Abilities to defeat the FFC enemies.

While this is primarily a co-op multiplayer game, there’s a sprinkling of PvP as well, breaking up a level run with a bit of competitive spice.

Illfonic have launched the game into Early Access on both PS5 and PC, with the aim of evolving the concept over the next seven months before a release in early 2022.

Illfonic’s last game was Predator: Hunting Grounds, another PlayStation exclusive that released in 2019. In our Predator: Hunting Grounds review, Jim wrote:

“Predator: Hunting Grounds is a decent multiplayer romp with just enough content and ideas to make it worthwhile. It’s a huge improvement over Ifflonic’s last game, Dead Alliance, and one that’s definitely pumped up thanks to having a popular license to lean on.”

Here’s hoping Arcadegeddon can knock it out of the park with a different core concept.
