Get six months of Apple TV+ for free if you own a PlayStation 5

If you have managed to get hold of a PS5 then there’s a rather nice offer from Apple that you may wish to take up. From now until July 22nd 2022 you can claim six months free trial access to the Apple TV+ streaming service via your PlayStation 5.

Apple TV+ did not make a big impact when it launched but has since built up a set of award winning shows including Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, and this September sees the launch of the epic and very expensive Foundation.

All you will need is you PSN account and an Apple ID. Fire up the Apple TV on your console, you can find it under “All apps” in Media home, download the app, sign in and that’s it, six free months of content.  After the trial period has ended you will be charged the usual price of £4.99 a month unless the service is cancelled.

You can only redeem the offer on a PS5 via the app, and if you are already an Apple TV+ subscriber through a bundle offer like Apple One, you are not eligible to redeem this offer. However, if you have an existing trial or a standard Apple TV+ sub you can use the offer. Why do they make these things so complicated?

The good news is that once the offer has been redeemed on your PS5 you can watch Apple TV+ on other devices, such as your iPhone or your smart TV.

Just for a change the offer is available in a huge number of countries, a list of which you can find below in the expandable section.

  1. “if you are already an Apple TV+ subscriber you are not eligible”

Are you sure? Right at the bottom of the page you linked to, it says “Valid for new and existing subscribers to Apple TV+ in the UK”

You also need more than just a PSN account and Apple ID. You need an iTunes account, which I can’t seem to work out how to set up without downloading iTunes. And a payment method attached to it, ready for when you forget to cancel it after the 6 months.

  2. Colour me confused. I’ve never used Apple TV in my life but I installed it last night and every single film I clicked on to watch, I had to pay for (either rental or purchase). I pay for Amazon Prime and Netflix monthly, and these give me free movies. Am I missing something here?

    • Apart from its own content – of which there’s a pretty good batch of TV shows and a limited number of movies – it’s a lot like Amazon in that you then have to buy anything additional. It’s probably something that’ll grow with time, but if you’re looking for movies it has nowhere near the numbers of other services.
