VGC are reporting that three of Konami’s big franchises are to get new games. New titles based on Silent Hill, Metal Gear and Castlevania are all in the works with the Castlevania game the first to be out. It is said that the “reimagining” is being developed by Vituos, a studio more known for porting games rather than creating new titles. Previous work includes The Bioshock Collection and and Dark Souls remastered on Switch.

Rumours of a reboot of Silent Hill have been wafting around for a good few years. The first came from DuskGolem aka AestheticGamer who has previously leaked information on Resident Evil which turned out to be correct.

In other news while I’m dropping this stuff, and I think I can talk about this, I’ll mention there is a couple new Silent Hill games in the works. Konami about two years ago reached out to various developers to pitch ideas for two Silent Hill games, one a soft-reboot of the franchise, the other an episodic TellTale/Until Dawn-style game to go alongside the reboot. I don’t know anything more than that though, but I sure do hope Konami’s given it the appropriate budget and found the right developer to make those games succeed.

His statements have been backed up by another separate source.

“We can also verify that, while we can’t discuss any details, we’ve also heard from our own independent source that a Silent Hill project is in development,” stated website Relyonhorror.com , “These two sources are (in our opinion) the strongest evidence yet that Silent Hill may really be back from the dead.”

Soon after Konami and horror masters Bloober Team announced partnership, but did not reveal a game. It is assumed they are working on one of the Silent Hill titles.

As for Metal Gear, VGC report the title will be based on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. However, a Metal Gear Solid without Hideo Kojima at the helm may be a very different title to previous games. As most of the Metal Gear timeline has already be seen in video games there would have to be some serious retconning to fit in a new title.

  1. I don’t know why Konami don’t just remake the original Metal Gear. I’ve tried playing but just can’t get to grips with it. Having a proper remake would be awesome.

If it’s based on MGS3 though, and assuming it’s not a remake, it could be a prequel based on the Boss around WW2, which could be cool.

But as the article says, any Metal Gear game without Kojima is gonna be a risk.

  2. After seeing what they did to PES with eFootball, they can keep any and all plans for Silent Hill and Metal Gear on their shelf.
