Ghost Recon Frontline is going all battle royale, and the YouTube dislikes are coming

Ghost Recon Frontline Header

It leaked earlier in the day, but Ubisoft have now confirmed Ghost Recon Frontline is a thing, and it is quite a different thing to other Ghost Recon games. Set on Drakemoor island, this is a 100 player free-to-play first person shooter. Ghost Recon has gone Battle Royale.

It has a number of game modes including Expedition in which squads of players must achieve objectives, collect intel and head to a drop zone. However, unlike other Battle Royales there is no encroaching circle of death. Instead your location is given away when you signal for extraction so the other teams can head to your position and take you out before the helicopter arrives – a bit like the Dark Zone in The Division.

As you might expect there are various classes including Assault, Scout, and Support, and you can swap between contactors in battle.

Ghost Recon Frontline Gameplay

A closed beta has been announced on PC and it will run from the 14th to the 21st of October in Europe. You need to head over to the website to register for that. When the game launches fully it will be on PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and Amazon Luna, which is also still a thing in case you had forgotten. If you are playing on other platforms you can still sign up for other beta tests in the future.

Here are the PC specs for the closed test:

Minimum specs needed to play Ghost Recon Frontline for low – 1080p :
• AMD Ryzen 3 1200/Intel Core I5 4460 • RAM 8 GB • AMD Radeon RX 470 (4 GB)/Nvidia Geforce GTX 670/760/960 (4 GB) • Windows 10

Recommended configurations to play Ghost Recon Frontline for high – 1080p :
• AMD Ryzen 5 1600/Intel Core I7 6700K • RAM 16 GB • AMD Radeon RX 480 (8GB)/Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 (6 GB) • Windows 10

While Ubisoft are rather upbeat about their new game, players seem to have a different opinion. The main YouTube video has 2.2k likes at over 7k dislikes. Another trailer has 405 likes and 4.5k dislikes, this one has 1.1k likes and 5.1k dislikes, you get the idea…

The main complaint seems to be that Frontline just isn’t Ghost Recon. “The Ghost Recon game nobody asked for,” one commenter said. “If they actually listened to the players they never would’ve made this game,” “Literally no one asked for his, wtf. It’s incredible how tone deaf and out of touch Ubisoft are, even after all that Breakpoint feedback,” “Hey guys look another generic battle royale how original.” The YouTube comments section are not a good read.

My favourite has to be, “We could create infinite energy if we just harness the power of Clancy rolling in his grave.”

  1. Breakpoint got a terrible response (though I enjoyed it) so it’s no surprise they’ve gone for a different approach. And battle royale is the most popular genre right now, so it’s of course what people like to hate on too.
