Deep Rock Galactic, the brilliant co-op mining shooter from Ghost Ship Games, is finally coming to PlayStation!

The Danish developer has been teasing a PlayStation release for Deep Rock Galactic since the game originally launched. Now we have confirmed it will be coming to both PS4 and PS5 early next year. And we mean early – January 2022, in fact.

Currently the game has only been available to play via PC and Xbox One. Having sold over 3 million copies and with a tabletop adaptation in the works, PlayStation fans will no doubt want to hear what all the fuss is about.

We’re particularly interested to see what Ghost Ship Games has planned for the PS5 version of Deep Rock Galactic. This upcoming release will see the game make its next-gen debut which hopefully means improved performance and visuals. There’s also no word on whether the PlayStation port will allow for online cross-play with PC and Xbox One though we dearly hope so.

If this is the first time you’re reading about Deep Rock Galactic then here’s a handy synopsis:

In Deep Rock Galactic players take up arms as one of four classes of badass dwarven miners, each with their own invaluable set of skills and gear. The Driller, the Engineer, the Scout and the Gunner must work together to survive a relentless onslaught of ravenous aliens, and sometimes robots, to escape the procedurally generated caves with their bounty intact. Since launch, Ghost Ship Games has continued to add a regular cadence of new missions, weapons and cosmetic content, and show no signs of slowing down!

We were thoroughly impressed with the game when it launched back in mid 2020, saying:

“Ooh, aah, that’s how it always starts, then later there’s running and screaming. Deep Rock Galactic can be deceptively easy going at times, right up until the swarms of bugs come crawling out of the inky darkness to besiege you and your friends. Who knew space dwarf mining could be so fun?”

Of course, since then the game has gone on to receive numerous updates. Very recently, new weapons and a new game mode were added to Deep Rock Galactic alongside Ghost Ship’s take on the popular battle pass system.
