It’s Thursday, which means it’s time to reveal the next free game coming to the Epic Games Store.
Well, that’s what would normally happen, anyway. Head on over to the Epic Games Store and you’ll see that the next freebie is being labelled as a “mystery game”.
What could it be? A potential leak comes via Dealabs and a listing posted by user Billbill-Kun showing Shenmue III as December 16th’s free Epic game.
Usually we’d approach such rumours with scepticism. However, the same website has been consistent when it comes to leaking the most recent game line-ups for PlayStation Plus.
This news coincides with reports that Epic is gearing up for another festive giveaway bonanza with 15 days of free games up for grabs.
As in 2020 and 2019, each game will be available for one day before disappearing, with one exception. One final free game will drop on December 30th, 2021 and remain on the Epic Games Store for a week.
To redeem these games, all you need to do is sign into the EGS website or client, then add them to your basket and go through checkout. Once purchased, they will remain in your library to keep forever.
Although we like a good surprise, there’s a chance the list of free games will get leaked ahead of time. There is also speculation that the next free game may not be Shenmue III, and could be a completely new title, about to be unveiled at The Game Awards.
In the meantime, there are two new games that have been added today. These include Prison Architect and Godfall: Challenger Edition.
Godfall will also appear as one of this month’s PlayStation Plus titles, alongside Mortal Shell, and LEGO DC Super Villains. There has been some controversy surrounding the new Challenger Edition of Counterplay’s action RPG which won’t include the original campaign.
