A new trailer for the 2022 Saints Row reboot has been released during The Game Awards, giving us another look at this revitalised take on the series. Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC, Saints Row will release on 23rd August 2022.
The new entry in the series will effectively wipe the slate clean from all of the game that have come before. Saints Row will take us to the completely new fictional city of Santo Ileso, a diverse and varied metropolis down in the American South West. There’s Route 66 nearby, there’s Monument Valley, and the city itself ranges from decrepit industrial regions though to a financial district and the playground of the rich and famous. Three rival gangs rule over all of this, but it’s about to become four, as you found the Saints.
The game was originally announced with a February 2022 launch, but was one of the first casualties from an absolutely jam-packed month of game releases. Announcing the delay last month, Volition studio head Jim Boone said, “In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, […] it’s become apparent that to create the best game possible, we need to give our team longer to perfect their craft.”
In October the Saints Row gameplay was finally been revealed in an early hands-on preview of the open-world action game. Almost 9 minutes of direct Saints Row gameplay has been shared with fans, showing off some of the reboot’s opening story missions.
The video comes via Game Informer, in partnership with Saints Row publisher Deep Silver. The footage is from a pre-alpha build and doesn’t give us a huge amount of context for what’s happening, though we still get to see some action-packed driving and gunfighting gameplay.
There are two story missions on show here – Making Rent and Idol Threat. In the early stages of the game, you and your ragtag gang of hoodlums have only just stepped on the path to creating their Saint Ileso criminal empire.
