PS4 players hoping to pre-load Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen are out of luck this morning. Bungie had previously said players would be able to download the new content and patch from 3am this morning and I can confirm that the PS5 patch is currently downloading for me right now, as is the PC patch.
It seems a technical hiccup has prevented the PS4 version going live, perhaps because rather than download an 18gb patch like PS5 users, PS4 players have to download the entire game in full.
Due to an unforeseen issue, PS4 Required Content is not yet available for download. Players using the PS4 version of Destiny 2 can download these files at 9 AM PST tomorrow when Update 4.0.0.1 becomes available.
All Required Content is ~72 GB total.
Stay tuned for updates.

The reason for the massive download on PS4 is because Bungie have been reworking the game files and after this download all future patches should be much smaller on PS4.
Here is the timetable of events for today:
- February 21, 6:45 PM PST (0245 UTC): Destiny 2 is brought offline.
- February 21, 7 PM (0300 UTC): Pre-load for Update 4.0.0.1 will be available on all platforms.
- February 22, 9 AM (1700 UTC): Destiny 2 will be brought back online. Update 4.0.0.1 will be playable on all platforms and regions.
- February 22, 10 AM (1800 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance is scheduled to complete.
The Witch Queen not only brings a new expansion, it also reworks some fairly large parts of the game. Void is getting an overhaul to Void 3.0 which has Aspects and Fragments, much like Stasis, and Eternity and Vostok return to the Crucible.
Gambit is also being overhauled and will now have a Freelance mode. “We think it’s important that players feel like they always have a chance at winning, and we see over and over again that full stacks of friends or clanmates have a significant advantage over groups of solo matchmade opponents,” say Bungie.
Respawn points have been added to all Fronts so you no longer have to leg it from the back of the map if you die, and players will drop half the Motes they were carrying when they are defeated. These can be picked up by team mate or by and invader.
