A Diablo Immortal release is still planned for 2022, Blizzard has confirmed. In a recent update, the company dived into the player feedback it received from the recent closed beta that ended earlier this year.

“We’re still planning for release in 2022,” Blizzard said while also outlining a hefty number of changes planned for the dungeon-crawling spinoff.

Diablo Immortal is a mobile MMO based on the extremely popular roleplaying series. Announced during Blizzcon 2018, it was met with a cold reception from diehard Diablo fans who, at the time, were pining for info on Diablo IV or the rumoured Diablo II remake.

With a Diablo Immortal release just months away, Blizzard has been busy reviewing and reworking a number of game systems as outlined below. There’s definitely an overriding theme, the developers wanting to make the DI social experience more prevalent while skipping over the pitfalls commonly associated with live service mobile games. Here are the proposed changes being worked on:

  • A bigger emphasis on the MMO element with better incentives for group play
  • Changes to the dungeons bounties to make them exclusively for solo play
  • New Helliquary bosses for Diablo Immortal’s 8-player raids
  • Multiple difficulty options for raid bosses
  • Improved raid matchmaking and group management
  • Battle pass will remain unchanged following positive feedback
  • Boon of Plenty (premium rewards pack) will be changed to offer better value
  • A reevaluation of how Legendary Gems work
  • Extended controller support throughout the game
  • Warbands will allow for up to 8 players with improved rewards to help incentive this more social way of playing Diablo Immortal
  • Changes to endgame Item Sets
  • Changed to how the Cycle of Strife PvP mode handles clans
  • Changes to the World Paragon progression system
