Update 22:50PM BST – Blizzard are stating that the DDoS attacks against their server infrastructure have come to an end.

That said, they also thought the DDoS had ended around four hours ago, and then things started again with another spurt of junk internet traffic to gum up the works within the last hour. Hopefully this is the end of the matter, but there could be further waves of DDoS coming Blizzard’s way.
For now, though, it seems you can play Diablo IV, World of Warcraft and Blizzard’s other online games, and the company will have tried to put server mitigations in place.

Blizzard are currently suffering from a DDoS attack which is affecting connections to their games including Diablo IV and World of Warcraft. The attack has been going on for ten hours and shows no sign of stopping. Blizzard say they “actively monitor” the situation but don’t seem to be able to to do much about it.

Those using Battle.net are also being informed of the attack with a warning message.
Obviously this really sucks and highlights the problems with online-only and even just connected games, where a DDoS, server maintenance or whenever a company decides to shutdown servers 5, 10, 15 years after release. When these things happen, you might not be able to play the games you’ve paid money for.
With that caveat, we did give the recently released Diablo IV a score of 9/10 in our review. “Diablo IV is almost shockingly refined, with an absorbing story and addictive gameplay,” said Gareth, “The shift to always online and connected play might turn some away, and the level scaling can make combat a little same-y, but on the whole, this is still Diablo at its best. It plays very well, offers tonnes of options for tailoring your character and acquiring that all important hunt for better and better loot will keep you coming back for more.”
