With Ghostwire Tokyo launching later this month, Tango Gameworks has released a free Prelude chapter available to download on PlayStation systems.
Taking the form of a visual novel, you’ll get to learn more about the game’s backstory as well as some of its key characters. The Prelude clocks in at 1.3GB on PS5, hopefully giving players a good taste of what’s to come.
In Ghostwire Tokyo, the city’s population seemingly vanish in a cataclysmic event, Tokyo now overrun with ghostly beings known as Visitors. The first person horror game is the latest project from developer Tango Gameworks, who created The Evil Within and its sequel, The Evil Within 2. Originally, Ghostwire was intended to be the third game in the series before its developers took the project in a new direction. There’s a notable shift here from third to first person view, featuring a more modern setting and faster paced action. Here’s what you can expect from the playable Prelude:
Dive deeper into the world of Ghostwire with the Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude. In this exciting visual novel adventure, players will join the mysterious KK and his team of supernatural detectives as they investigate an unusual disappearance. However, along their journey they’ll stumble upon something even more sinister. Players can choose different interactions with KK’s associates to piece together their stories in Ghostwire’s unique prequel.

“Having spent such a long time shrouded in mystery, I’m now really looking forward to diving into Ghostwire: Tokyo in March for PS5 and PC to explore everything it has to offer. The first person elemental combat looks intriguing and impactful, the Visitors have a mix of quirky and horrific designs from Japanese folklore, and I’m keen to see how Tango Gameworks has woven all of this into a slice of Tokyo.”
This latest PlayStation console exclusive comes hot on the heels of Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7, helping to get Sony’s systems off to a busy year.
