Another week in the books, and it would seem like the world is mostly playing Elden Ring. I made a somewhat silly decision to play Demon’s Souls to prepare for it, and now I’m really enjoying that. I might get to Elden Ring by the summer? I have also been loving the Switch-exclusive Triangle Strategy, which is the perfect thing for Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem fans, but i’m now waiting for Gran Turismo 7 to drop through the door and then I can annoy everyone in my household by putting a steering wheel in the middle of the the living room.
Tuffcub has been playing Destiny 2, but it’s new stuff so we can let him off, and he has been hard at work on our in progress review of The Witch Queen. Personally I think we should shift to an all-poem format like his Destiny 2 one from last week.
Jason has played more Elden Ring. He says, “since finishing the game I’ve booted up another playthrough and have been discovering a lot of extra dungeons and areas that were tucked away in places I guess I didn’t notice.”
It was Gareth’s birthday on Sunday and he’s now playing Horizon Forbidden West. He says, “It’s big and shiny. Before Sunday I was playing Red Dead 2.” A belated Happy Birthday G!
Also playing Horizon Forbidden West is Nic B, though this is “despite being furious that yesterday’s update knackered my game. It trashed 24hrs worth of save data and added icons to the map for the firegleam I’ve destroyed. Am well unimpressed.” I’d be rather unimpressed at that too…
Nick P got his plat on Sifu which is “one of my toughest to date. Loved it overall and really sad it’s over. Then I got started on Elden Ring which has been just *chef kiss* I’m not far in, but I am being as thorough as possible.”
Jim has played loads more For Honor this week as he perfects his Zhanhu skills. He tells us, “I sometimes get anxious spending so much time playing online games when there’s a backlog of single players titles just waiting there. However, For Honor continues to be great fun and I’ll likely take the plunge in buying premium access to the next battle pass.”
Aran has played lots of Elden Ring and is slowly but surely getting better at it as I go. “I really like the open world and how you can go do something else if you get stuck in one place. I’ve also played some Babylon’s Fall for review.”
Steve has played another shed load of Steam demos, more Chocobo GP than is humane, and a bunch of Elex II saying it’s “typical Piranha Bytes fare but looks prehistoric compared to other open world games. Got Elden Ring and the interesting looking Martha is Dead lined up but Elex just keeps on going through the same motions as the first one. Think I’m getting old…”
Ade played Roguebook for review. He says, “It’s a roguelike deck builder, which, I’ll be honest, sounds very boring but it was excellent and a highlight of 2022 so far. I’ve also got Horizon lined up, but only had chance to play a little bit. There’s been a lot of recap exposition to trawl through but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in proper.”
Meanwhile Miguel played Apex Legends, Rune Factory 5, a bunch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and a decent chunk of Vampire Survivors too!
Finally we come to Tef, who’s been bingeing on an unending diet of racing games for the past few weeks. First there was GRID Legends, then Assetto Corsa Competizione rocked up, and now he’s been able to share his thoughts on Gran Turismo 7. Even when he’s previewing Kirby and the Forgotten Land, he’s racing around with a car jammed into his mouth!

Like Tef I’ve got the same three racing games but not enough time for them all.
After giving GT7 a quick blast yesterday I’ve come to the conclusion that I hate it……. because I won’t be able to do anything else as I’ll be spending every minute possible racing, building up my car collection and collecting menus in the GT Cafe.

This week I played some of ‘This war of mine’, which I got with Plus a while back.
It is really good, but also quite depressing, because it’s doing a very good job in giving you a slight glimpse of what it must feel like in a war zone, like in Ukraine at the moment. You struggle to stay alive in extremely harsh conditions, and pretty soon the people I cared for in my game were all dead. It’s doing the opposite of all those CoD games, it’s not glorifying war but showing the drastic reality of it, and that is a very good thing, especially now.
After that, I played some more Bloodborne, which is relaxing in comparison. I tried to get the last few DLC weapons, but the Rakuyo and the Gatling Gun are both quite difficult, actually more so than many of the blosses in this game. So far, I’ve not succeeded, but I’ll try some more times.

Thanks for everyone’s recommendations last week. Opted for Hot Wheels Unleashed, which my son loves, and Cyberpunk as my grown up game, although not had a chance to play any yet.

I got the platinum for ARK: Survival Evolved and continued playing Lego Worlds, as well as Everybody’s Golf. I’m at a comedy gig tonight and then planning to play Lego Indiana Jones 2 and/or Spare Parts on PS3 over the weekend

After being away for a funeral last weekend, I thought I’d try and finish off some stuff this week.
Which didn’t work out as planned because of the monthly PS+/Now thing. And a certain amount of Dwarf-based mining shenanigans. For Karl!
Along with that Trails of Cold Steel I picked up in a sale. Which I’m still loving, even if it really does take it’s time.
But I did finish off Uncharted 4 in it’s lovely PS5 version. Onto the second of the 2 games next. And almost done with Alan Wake. Glad they fixed the audio bug, because it’s quite fun. Even if it’s showing it’s age a bit.
So the “free” monthly games? Team Sonic Racing is fun. Sort of. Ghostrunner is just frustratingly hard, and not in a good way. And I couldn’t be arsed downloading that much of Ark. So onto PS Now…
Shadow Warrior 3 is stupid, childish fun and doesn’t have the frame rate issues the second game had. But too short. 8 hours or so? With no chapter select or NG+ mode, so if you miss any of the collectible upgrades, you’re stuck with 1 trophy to get for the platinum, and a whole new playthrough to get it.
Plus Relicta is just my type of thing. Puzzles that get big and complicated very quickly until the ideal puzzle outcome of “go away, come back later, realise the solution was obvious”.
Also, WTF is this Chicken Police weirdness?? Maybe I’ll give that another go.
Oh, and I tried out Cyberpunk with it’s 5 hour demo for the PS5 version. How bad was it a year ago? Because it’s pretty terrible still now. The standard performance/resolution choice, with the shiny graphics option being pretty much unplayable due to horrible input lag. Various bugs, like NPCs spawning inside my parked car so driving off without running them over is impossible. Horrible driving. And just a general feeling of “why did they even bother releasing it in the first place?”. So that saved me 20 quid.

Elden Ring is sublime and i am absolutely loving it but my ability to escape into it’s universe has been tempered hugely by the blatant terrorism and cold-blooded murder being visited upon Ukrainian civilians by Putin’s regime.
