Skydance New Media and Lucasfilm Games are teaming up to create a “richly cinematic action-adventure game featuring an original story in the legendary Star Wars galaxy.” Amy Hennig, formerly of Naught Dog, will be helming the project.
“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly,” said Hennig, President, Skydance New Media. “I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure,” said Douglas Reilly, Vice President, Lucasfilm Games. “Their vision for making inviting, cinematic interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.
No platforms or release dates have been given.
This is the second big IP that Skydance New Media are working with, in October 2021 they announced that they would also be creating an action adventure game set in the Marvel universe. Details on that are also thin on the ground but we do know it will be a completely new story.
There’s a lot of new Star Wars content arriving in the coming years. Quantic Dream are working on Star Wars Eclipse, but are reportedly having a lot of problems creating the game. We also know that Respawn are working on three other Star Wars titles, a sequel to Fallen Order plus a brand new first person shooter and a strategy game. There’s also the KOTOR remake on the way.
Out right now is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, a game that has had great reviews and equally great sales.
