Modern Warfare 2 confirmed as the next Call of Duty

Modern Warfare 2 has been confirmed as the next Call of Duty, following a tease from earlier this week. The announcement came via the Call of Duty and Infinity Ward social media feeds with a short video that revealed the logo for Modern Warfare 2. You can check out the new logo in the teaser.

A release date for Modern Warfare 2 is yet to be confirmed as are platforms. It is likely that the game will come to current gen and last gen platforms as well as PC, but that is speculative for now. It is likely the game itself will release around October or November. The Modern Warfare 2 rumour mill has been spinning for several months now. There’s speculation that we could see the addition of a new online PvE mode, potentially evolving the fan favourite Special Ops, with talk of a new Warzone map that combines a patchwork of classic MW2 maps.

It’s no secret that while Call of Duty Vanguard was a solid entry in the FPS franchise, it didn’t perform as well as other recent instalments. As a result, it’s been claimed that Activision will move away from its annual release schedule, skipping 2023. The writing has been on the wall for a long time now with Warzone persistently evolving, reducing the need for a new game every year.

Jim gave Call of Duty Vanguard 9/10 in our review, saying: “The stars have aligned for Call of Duty: Vanguard. For the first time, this truly feels like a full package without any caveats,” we said. “Sure, some parts are naturally stronger than others but there isn’t a weak link in sight. After back to back triumphs, Call of Duty is now on a killstreak.”

  1. Didn’t they already release a Modern Warfare 2…?

    • You’re right. This game must be Modern Warfare II.
