First Deliver Us Mars dev diary journeys to the red planet

A first developer diary for Deliver Us Mars has been released, as developer KeokeN dive into the creative process behind creating the sequel to 2019’s lunar odyssey Deliver Us The Moon. Deliver Us mars will be “coming soon” to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The dev diary reveals some of the details of the new game’s narrative and how KeokeN are advancing their craft over their breakout indie hit. Set 10 years after the events of Deliver Us The Moon, Earth is still deeply impacted by extreme climate change and in decline, but there’s a new hope to revitalise the planet, and it can be found on Mars. The goal of this new mission is to retrieve the colonisation ships known as ARKs that were sent to our dusty red neighbour by a secretive company known as Outward. Along the way, you’ll discover what happened to Outward’s missing colony.

In a major change from Deliver Us The Moon, the main character here is fully voiced, allowing the game to better explore the relationship between father and daughter that will play out through the adventure. You will play as the daughter, her personality, motivations and past revealed through her own words. The game will now feature motion-captured performances from a cast of characters.

The dev diary also gives a glimpse of the game’s new traversal system and puzzle mechanics that will be found through the game. There’s also a brand new launch sequence that KeokeN hope will be the most immersive and realistic launch sequence in a game to date.

Deliver Us The Moon launched for PC in late 2019, and then came to PS4 and Xbox One in April 2020. We reviewed the console release of the game, with Tom saying in our Deliver Us The Moon review:

“Deliver Us The Moon really surprised me. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but it’s a fantastic sci-fi thriller that kept me gripped throughout. Deliver Us The Moon is a stellar experience which will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.”
