Turbo Golf Racing hits PC & Xbox Early Access in August – Beta 2 live now

Turbo Golf Racing Header

Turbo Golf Racing is blazing a trail to release, with the game heading into Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview (and Xbox Game Pass) on 4th August 2022. But what if you want to check out the “Rocket League but golf’ of the game before then? Well, there’s a second beta test available on Steam and Xbox right now!

Xbox gamers can sign up now via the Xbox Insiders app and get access, while PC gamers will want to snag the beta from Steam. Turbo Golf Racing supports cross-platform play between PC and Xbox, and that’s sure to be a part of what the beta will test. The beta will run until 6PM UK time on 20th June.

Here’s what Beta 2 contains compared to the first

  • 12 playable courses, including new levels such as Twisted Gardens, Uphill Battle, Hyper Flight Corner and Mountain Hideout
  • Online, cross-platform matchmaking supporting up to eight players per match
  • Single-player time trials
  • Dedicated 15-level Beta progression season
  • Community designed cosmetic items
  • Increased party size from first Beta
  • Multiple improvements over the first Beta including improved respawn mechanics, missile behaviour changes, car handling tweaks, Shot Of The Match balancing adjustments and improved visuals

Additionally, Hugecalf Studios has stated that they plan to release regular free updates after the game has entered Early Access and Xbox Game Preview. Expect new cosmetic items, new Power Cores and additional courses, as well as the usual bug fixes, balance changes and performance enhancements.

2022 is the year of the golf game genre mash-up, and from its announcement in March, it was immediately clear that Turbo Golf Racing was driving for the freshly mown greens of ‘Rocket League but it’s giant golf and not car football’. It’s a fast-paced arcade take on golf for eight players, with everyone having a turbo-charged car that you can zoom around the fairways to strike oversized golf balls.

The aim of the game is to be the first to get your specific ball in the hole, but getting there will be chaotic. Racers can jump, flip, glide, boost and dash with their cars, while taking advantage of boost pads, secret tunnels and even get a bit militant with missile attacks. Then there’s Power Cores, which can be unlocked and equipped to let you hit balls further, fly faster, and use abilities like Ground Stomp and Gravitate Ball.

Turbo Golf Racing Rocket League 2

We checked out the first beta and found a game that certainly felt like it had a good fun core to explore, albeit one with a rather bland and potentially forgettable name. In our Turbo Golf Racing preview I wrote:

“Give it a play and I think you might actually enjoy it as much, if not more than the evergreen car football. The action comes in shorter bursts, the onus is on your own relative skill, as opposed to a collision-filled head-to-head, and there’s the potential for some really wild course designs to emerge. This is definitely one to keep an eye on, just make sure to write the name down somewhere so you can remember it.”

Turbo Golf Racing will launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One through early access programmes on 4th August, and will be in Xbox Game Pass as well.
