The Fallout TV series cast has gained three new members with Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten joining the show.
MacLachlan should need no introduction having starred in the iconic Twin Peaks show and movies, and you may also recognise him from the original Dune movie in which he played Paul Atreides. Xelia Mendes-Jones is new face but will be in the second season of The Wheel of Time at Amazon, while Aaron Moten has been in the tv shows Mozart in the Jungle and Disjointed, and the film Father Stu.
They join Ella Purnell who has been cast the lead character, “described as upbeat and uncannily direct with an all-American can-do spirit, but an intensity in her eyes says she might just be a tiny bit dangerous,” and Walter Goggins, who will be playing a Ghoul.
Kilter Films are handling the show with Jonathan Nolan directing the first episode, you may recognise him as being one of the co-creators of HBO’s Westworld.
“Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time,” said Nolan back in 2020. “Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

Amazon’s description of the project reads, “The world of ‘Fallout’ is one where the future envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077. The magic of the ‘Fallout’ world is the harshness of the wasteland set against the previous generation’s utopian idea of a better world through nuclear energy. It is serious and harsh in tone, yet sprinkled with moments of ironic humour and B-movie-nuclear-fantasies.”
Bethesda’s Todd Howard (who will serve as an Executive Producer on the show) said, “Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring ‘Fallout’ to the screen. But it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.”
It’s the latest in a string of attempts by video game companies to translate their franchises to film and TV series. The first attempt was back in 2000 when Interplay Films partnered with Dark Horse and they got as far as having treatment written. The project was eventually abandoned but you can read the entire treatment here.
