A fresh trailer for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been released by Nacon and developer Daedalic, as they build up to the Gollum’s release on 1st September 2022 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC – a Switch release will come later in the year.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a fresh take on Gollum’s journey as it would have happened concurrently to the early chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s at this time that he sets out from the Misty Mountains, heading to the fringes of Mordor, through the Wood-elves realm of Mirkwood and beyond, all just for the chance to snag his Precious.

It’s a stealth action adventure, but one that is especially story-driven with players getting to choose which of the two conflicting personalities gets to shine through. Do you want it to be the kind-natured Hobbit-self of Sméagol, or the mean, selfish nature of Gollum? Various decision points will let you decide.

The game was announced in 2019 but there was precious little information at the time. We’ve seen a few snippets of the game over the last couple of years, each on showing the game’s visual promise, and if you’re a fan of Tolkien’s books or their accompanying movie adaptations The Lord of the Rings Gollum looks like it’s going to bring this world to you in a fresh new way, and from a point of view we’ve never seen before. Of course, they’re banking on the fact that everyone loves Gollum, even if it isn’t Serkis behind the motion capture mask.

While originally planned for release in 2021, production has taken longer than Daedalic would have hoped for various reasons, forcing them to push their release target back to 2022, eventually settling on 1st September.
