Ubisoft have cancelled four games, two of which were unannounced projects. The have also cancelled Splinter Cell VR which was leaked and was officially confirmed at an Oculus Connect virtual event. The game was going to be exclusive to Facebook’s Oculus headsets.
Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment was on development duties having previously worked on VR titles Werewolves Within and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. That team was also working on Assassin’s Creed VR and two other titles, perhaps the other two unnamed games that have been cancelled. There is no news on Assassin’s Creed VR.
Ghost Recon: Frontline was announced by Ubisoft last year and the first trailer was heavily criticised for turning Ghost Recon in to a battle royale.
An Alpha test of the game was quickly cancelled and footage from a closed Beta that leaked was heavily criticised for being “Just” another battle royale and one that look very similar to Call of Duty’s Warzone game. It seems that Ubisoft have listened to their fans and have now completely cancelled the project.
Ubisoft has dated their next big Ubisoft Forward stream will take place on 10th September, returning “in full force” with updates on multiple games and projects from Ubisoft’s worldwide teams, one of which is set to be the next Assassin’s Creed title.

☠ Skull and Bones Ubisoft Forward Spotlight | July 7
? Ubisoft Forward | September 10— Ubisoft (@Ubisoft) July 5, 2022
The Ubisoft Forward stream will kick off at 12:00PM PT / 8:00PM BST (UK time) / 9:00PM CEST, and I’m sure we can expect more details of what kinds of games and reveals to expect, and the running time, closer to that date.
With a date in September, Ubisoft will have almost skipped out on the entire summer game stream season with their Ubisoft Forward stream. After E3 2022’s cancellation, it was expected that Ubisoft would host a separate Ubisoft Forward stream, perhaps tying in with Summer Game Fest. Instead, Ubisoft (and plenty other big game companies) skipped out on the Geoff Keighley-fronted showcase season. They have had some summer-time streams, focussed specifically on Mario + Rabbids and Skull & Bones, presumably as they need to get their marketing drives rolling toward October/November launch dates, but for that big blowout Ubisoft showcase? It’ll be after Gamescom even.
